ChatFlint vs Chatbase
Checked in September 2026 against public documentation and pricing. Both products move; where a number matters to your decision, verify it with them.
A hosted chatbot builder against a WordPress-native plugin — same underlying idea, very different ownership.
Chatbase is one of the better-known hosted tools for building a chatbot on your own content: point it at your site or upload documents, and embed the widget. The approach is the same as ours. What differs is where everything lives and how you are billed.
Side by side
| ChatFlint | Chatbase | |
|---|---|---|
| Where your index lives | Your WordPress database | Their platform |
| Where conversations live | Your database | Their platform |
| Billing | Licence per site + AI at cost | Monthly, typically with message credits |
| Content updates | Automatic when you publish | Re-sync or re-upload |
| WordPress awareness | Native: post types, custom fields, page builders, WooCommerce | Treats your site as pages to crawl |
| Human handoff | Inbox inside WordPress, business hours, WhatsApp | Varies by plan and integrations |
| WooCommerce selling | Product cards built from your catalog at answer time — live price, sale price, stock, attributes and variations — with add to cart in the chat | Can answer about products it has crawled, but does not read your prices, stock or attributes and cannot add to a cart |
| When it does not know | It says so, logs the question as a gap, and offers a human | Configurable in the prompt; the gap is not handed to you as a to-do list |
| Portability | Everything is in your database | Export depends on the platform |
The WordPress-native argument
A crawler sees your site the way a search engine does: rendered pages. A plugin sees it the way you built it — post types, custom fields, ACF, product attributes, prices, stock, your navigation menu. That difference shows up in answers about products and structured data, and it is why re-indexing can be automatic instead of a chore.
Where hosted wins
- You want a chatbot on a site that is not WordPress, or across several unrelated sites.
- You would rather have a dashboard than a plugin.
- You want to be running in ten minutes with no key.
If your content is WordPress, a plugin gets more out of it, keeps it, and costs less at volume. If your content is spread across platforms, a hosted builder is the more natural fit.
Questions
Is the answer quality different?
Both use retrieval over your content with a commercial model, so the ceiling is similar. The difference comes from how well the content is extracted and how carefully the system refuses to answer when it should.
What happens to my chatbot if I stop paying?
With a hosted tool, the widget stops. With a plugin, it keeps working — you stop receiving updates and support.
