Quick replies

Where it is: Design → Widgets → Quick Replies. Switch the card on, then open it to configure.

Most visitors do not know what a chatbot can be asked, and a blank input invites them to close it. Two or three buttons answer that question for them, and they are much of the difference between a widget people open and a widget people use.

What each setting does

SettingWhat it does
When to showInitial only — when the chat first opens (the default). Always visible — under the input the whole time. After bot responses — as follow-up options after every reply.
Quick reply buttonsUp to eight. Each has a label (short — about 20 characters) and the message actually sent when it is clicked. Leave a row empty to skip it.

Writing them

  • Phrase the message the way a visitor would ask it — “What does it cost?” — not as an internal category name.
  • The label can be short while the message is long: “Pricing” can send “Tell me about your pricing and what is included”.
  • Three good buttons beat eight mediocre ones. The list is also the first thing many people read about what you do.
The same buttons appear as the “Try asking” prompts on the home screen, so they are worth getting right.
